Invasive Species Management
During the winter months, Public Works staff and Institution Community Work Crews (ICWC) harvest non-native honeysuckles and buckthorn plants within City parks and public lands.
The dormant season (October-March) is an ideal period for trimming trees and shrubs. Public Works staff perform this work while snow plowing and ice rink maintenance allow for.
Hazardous trees and Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) inspections
Generally these inspections are performed by Public Works staff during the growing season. Imminent hazard trees are removed as soon as possible while potentially hazardous trees are removed as time allows.
Updates of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) Management Plan
Staff reviews this plan on a regular basis and is current conditions and budget warrant. Staff anticipates updated to be completed late 2020.
Update of Tree Identification, Map and Compass Courses
These outdoor education courses were designed and built by local scouts to achieve their Merit and Eagle scout badges. Staff routinely inspects and make repairs as needed for these courses at the McColl Pond Environmental Learning and Event Center (ELC).
