Local Traffic Only. No Thru Traffic. Road Closed. What do all these signs mean?
Road construction is in full swing in Savage, and several of our local streets are being reconstructed and resurfaced. It is difficult to work on a road when lots of cars drive down the road, so in and around construction zones, residents are likely to see various temporary signs that restrict or detour traffic. But what do they all mean?
Road Closed to Thru Traffic and/or Local Traffic Only tells you that you need to take a different route and should only cross the barrier if you have no other option to reach your destination within the restricted area. For example, if the driveway to your home or worksite can only be accessed on the restricted roadway, you are local traffic and not thru traffic. If your destination is outside the restricted area, you should take another route and not go through.
Road Closed means just that; you cannot enter or cross the barrier. This is only done if access is not needed. If you try, you may not get through. The worksite will be in a condition in which travel will be very difficult and not maintained for general travel.
We understand it can be frustrating when your road is blocked or closed during construction, but for your safety and the safety of the construction crews, we ask that you follow the posted detours and stay away from construction zones when directed. Savage Police are monitoring construction zones and violators can be subject to a citation.
