Meet a Savage Firefighter
What is your day job?
I am a manufacturing technician at a large manufacturing company. I work in a small tech/engineering group building production equipment for production lines at our facilities across the globe.
What made you want to become a firefighter?
I have been volunteering as a certified first responder in my workplace for six years and it is very rewarding knowing that I can make a difference in someone’s life with the proper training. I saw the City of Savage was looking for on-call firefighters, so I didn’t hesitate to apply. Fun fact - I never would’ve thought that paying my water bill on the City of Savage’s website would’ve been the reason I saw this opportunity!
What do you like to do when you are not working or volunteering?
When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my wife, kids, and newly adopted dog. I also enjoy staying active outdoors. I work out and run on a regular basis and like to participate in races such as running and obstacle course races.
What do you like most about firefighting?
Having the honor to serve the community.
What would you say to someone considering becoming a firefighter?
Look into the traits that firefighters must possess. Make sure that your work and life balance can meet the expectations to efficiently contribute to your fire department. Most importantly, this is a selfless service to your community. Firefighters are courageous individuals who put their life in the line of danger to protect and serve. If you are looking for a commendable job with a camaraderie that will last a lifetime, this is it.
