Regulations for Businesses

All businesses operating within the city of Savage are responsible for understanding and abiding by City Ordinance, State State and Federal Law. Not all businesses are required to obtain licensing.

The following are a list of commonly requested licenses. The is not meant to substitute licensing requirements of Savage City Ordinance and is only for informational purposes. See Savage City Code for comprehensive regulations.

PEDDLERS / SOLICITORS
Door-to-door peddlers, defined as those who deliver merchandise at the same time as it is offered for sale, must have City Council approval. Solicitors (those who take orders for future delivery) and non-profit salespeople must register at City Hall. Such permitting/licensing should not be construed as an endorsement of the product or service offered. Peddlers are not permitted on property where a sign or notice is posted prohibiting them. LIQUOR & TOBACCO
Businesses selling or serving liquor or tobacco are required to first obtain licensing to do so. Licensed businesses are expected to adhere to the guidelines set forth in City Ordinance and in the Police Department's Alcohol and Tobacco Best Practices Program. Not all businesses or organizations may sell or serve alcohol.

CHARITABLE GAMBLING
Specific provisions exist within City Ordinance, State Statute and Federal Law for conducting charitable gambling within the City of Savage. It is the responsibility of those conducting charitable gambling to know and follow the law. Businesses or organization wishing to conduct charitable gambling should contact the Minnesota Gambling Control Board and the City of Savage Administration Department.

LARGE ASSEMBLY PERMITS
Any event open to the public where the group conducting the assembly reasonably anticipates that 50 or more persons will participate must first secure a permit with the city clerk.

SPECIAL EVENTS
A Special Event Permit is required for sidewalk sales; outdoor patios for dining; and serving/selling alcohol, signage, use of public property and, music. For more information on special events please call the city clerk.
