Emerald Ash Borer Workshop Print E-mail

The Minnesota Landscape Arboretum is hosting Emerald Ash Borer Education Day to increase awareness about options for those with ash trees on their property.

Photo contest winners announced Print E-mail

A record number of entries were received in the 2010 Show Off Savage Photo Contest, topping last year’s entry record. Thirty-nine residents entered 126 photographs in the youth and adult divisions, representing the Savage community in four different categories.

Winning the Grand Prize of $100 in the Adult Division and also taking First in the Places category was Joy King’s entry entitled “Vantage Point.”  First-place awards presented for each of the three other categories in the Adult Division were as follows:
·    People –  “Ready, Set, Go!” by Sandra Hanson
·    Events – “A Day in Their Boots” by Megan Cooper
·    Life – “What Do You See?” by April Nolte

Youth Division entrant Claire Fahning, age 12, took the Grand Prize of $100 for her photo titled “Fire Gear.” Her entry also earned First Place in the Youth Division’s Places category. First-place awards presented for each of the three other categories in the Youth Division were as follows:

·    People – “Summer Day” by Julia Fox, age 12
·    Events – “Go Lakers” by Charlee Skare, age 13
·    Life – “A Special Bond” by Nicole Oliver, age 14

Local businesses sponsoring the contest and providing gift certificates to the winners include Jimmy John’s, Buffalo Wild Wings, McHugh’s Public House, Applebee’s, Walmart, Best Buy, Culver’s, Davanni’s, Eagle Creek Gallery, Perkins Restaurant and Bakery and Buffalo Tap.

Contest judges included Mark Roberts, owner of Eagle Creek Gallery; Lezlee Hustad, owner of local Abracadoodle franchise and Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources Commission member; Mark Walentiny, professional photographer; and Robyn Cline, Savage Arts Council Board member.

The City of Savage thanks the sponsors, judges and contest participants for another successful Show Off Savage Photo Contest, which demonstrates community pride from a variety of perspectives.

 
Registration for fall recreation programs now open Print E-mail

Fall programs being offered by Savage Parks and Recreation can now be found online. Those interested are encouraged to visit the Recreation Programs web page for a list of activities being offered, as Parks and Recreation has discontinued the printed version of its brochure. A pdf of the brochure may be downloaded from the website so specific pages may be printed as necessary. The web pages for each program being offered also may be printed as needed.

Those wishing to register for programs may do so by clicking “Register Online” located on each Recreation web page. Questions may be directed to Parks and Recreation at 952-224-3420.

To stay abreast of Parks and Recreation offerings, those interested are encouraged to sign up for Parks and Recreation’s e-mail notification system. In addition to announcing new program listings, the e-mail is used to notify participants of program cancellations, weather delays and other last-minute information. To sign up, visit the “Recreation” tab at www.cityofsavage.com and click on the “E-Notices from Park & Rec” menu item. Information provided through the form will not be shared with any other organization.

 
Discover the artists of Scott County Oct. 9 Print E-mail

Enthusiasts of fine art can meet the artists that help make-up the strong art community in Scott County and see in person how their artwork is created, during the Scott County Art Crawl on Saturday October 9, 2010.

For one day, artists are opening up their studios, or displaying their artwork at sponsoring businesses, and inviting anyone with an interest in quality, original artwork to enjoy a fun, self-guided tour of art stops during the Scott County Art Crawl.
