Advisory Commissions

Four advisory commissions exist to provide guidance to the City Council on a number of topics and issues. Commission members are volunteers appointed by the City Council following an application and interview process. Members typically serve three-year terms that begin on Feb. 1.

Communications Commission

The Advisory Communications Commission consists of six members who meet to advise the City Council and provide feedback to staff on matters relating to the City's communications program. Areas covered by the Commission include print, video and electronic communication efforts; cable television services; citizen focus groups and surveys; special events; media relations; community relations; and community identity and image.

Meetings typically occur the third Thursday of the month, as needed, at 7:30 a.m. at Savage City Hall. For more information, call City Hall at 952-882-2660.

Economic Development Commission

The Economic Development Commission consists of seven members and two alternates. Alternates participate in the discussion of issues like regular members, but may only vote when a regular member is absent.

The Economic Development Commission advises the City Council in all matters relating to the economic development of the community including efforts in pursuit of recruitment of new business and industry; retention and expansion of existing business and industry; diversification of the community's economy; jobs; increased community tax base; and planning the coordination of the community's economic development resources and efforts.

Each commissioner's term runs for three years. Meetings are the third Wednesday of the month at 7:15 a.m. at City Hall, 6000 McColl Road, Savage. Agendas for each meeting are available at City Hall on the Friday prior to the meeting. For more information, call City Hall at 952-882-2660.

Parks Commission

The Parks, Recreation, and Natural Resources Commission consists of seven members and two alternates. Alternates participate in the discussion of issues like regular members, but may only vote when a regular member is absent. Terms are for three years.

Known as the PRNRC, the Commission works with staff to provide input and make recommendations regarding recreational programming and the acquisition and development of parks. The PRNRC meets the fourth Monday of each month at 7 p.m. in the City Council Chambers. Agendas are available from City Hall, 6000 McColl Drive, the Friday before the meeting. For more information, call City Hall at 952-882-2660.

Planning Commission

The Planning Commission consists of seven members and two alternates. Alternates participate in all issue discussions, but may only vote when a regular member is absent from the meeting.

The Commission focuses on land use and zoning issues that arise within the City limits. Commission members have the powers and duties given planning agencies as provided in Minnesota Statutes 462l-351 et seq. The Commission also exercises the duties conferred upon it by the City Code including the Zoning Ordinance and by the Council.

The Planning Commission meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month or as set by City Council, at 7 p.m. in the Council Chambers. Minutes and Agendas are available on the City website or at City Hall, 6000 McColl Drive, Savage, on the Monday prior to the meeting.
